Professor Jack D. Cichy’s business experience includes management for Holiday Inns and show bar management/executive management for several Northern and Western Michigan resort properties. Dr. Cichy has served as Management Department Head/Chair, Academic Dean and Dean of Students while working for Davenport University. He has provided leadership consultation to numerous organizations and served as a consultant/trainer at Cascade Engineering of Grand Rapids for over twenty years. Dr. Cichy has co-owned a retail gift basket company since 1988.

Professor Cichy’s professional and research interests are in the areas of leadership, organizational development, ethics and sustainable business practices. He has contributed articles to the Grand Rapids Business Journal, Management World, and CORP Magazine while presenting at the National/Regional Lilly Conferences on College Teaching, the National Management Association Conference and the Michigan Academy of Arts, Science and Letters Conference. He has spoken to many organizations on ethics, leadership and business sustainability. Professor Cichy serves on the Board of Regents for the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM).

Dr. Cichy holds several certifications: Certified Manager (CM) by the ICPM at James Madison University, Leadership Effectiveness Analysis (LEA) Licensed Facilitator by Management Research Group, and BarOn EQ-i Qualified Facilitator. Professor Cichy is Certified as a Food and Beverage Executive (CFBE) and Hotel Administrator (CHA) by the American Hotel and Lodging Association.

When asked about his teaching philosophy, Professor Cichy stated, “I challenge students to develop their critical thinking skills. I encourage learners to develop alternative ways to relate to and practice management and leadership theories and philosophies.”
