Do I have to share a bedroom on campus and why?
Since the demand for housing exceeds the single bedroom limit, students will be sharing bedrooms for a 25% discounted rate. Those who checked yes on their application were placed first in a shared bedroom. Once those students were placed, additional spaces were filled based on application date. This is to ensure that we accommodate ALL students who wish to live on campus.
What are some of the advantages of living on campus?
Living on campus provides you with the convenience of being close to classes, programs and events sponsored by the University. Research has shown students who live on campus receive higher grades and have a greater potential of continuing through graduation. It also allows you to be immersed in the college community and Student Life.
Can I have a car on campus?
Yes, you are allowed to have a car. A no-cost registration is required. Parking is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
What are the dimensions of my room?
South Hall Bedrooms: 10' x 8'. Within this space there is a 2.5' x 4' closet area. Windows are 3' x 5.5'
Cook/Meijer Bedrooms: 10' x 12'.
What are the fire safety procedures?
All rooms are equipped with a smoke detector, fire alarm and a sprinkling system. Routine fire drills are run in cooperation with Security Services. Fire safety procedures and processes are covered in mandatory floor meetings.
What is the best way to receive packages and mail on campus?
All mail and packages are routed through the Mail Center located on the lower level of the Academic Building. Mail is sorted daily. Students will receive an email letting them know that they have mail and/or a package.

How will you match me with a roommate?
A questionnaire is part of the application. Roommates are matched according to your responses. Students are allowed to request their roommates, but both students must put each other’s student ID number on their own application. You will have the ability to log back into the housing application and change or update your requested roommates through July 31.
When will I find out who my roommate is and where I will be living?
Room assignments and roommate contact information will be sent via US mail in early August.
What happens if I don’t get along with my roommate?
When you move in you are required to complete a roommate agreement worksheet. This tool allows you to start communicating clearly about your expectations. You and your roommate should initially try and work through any issues on your own, but if more assistance is needed the RA or Residence Life Coordinator should be contacted. The Residence Life Staff will work through situations to make sure to make sure we maintain a safe and secure living environment.
What furnishings come with my room?
In Cook and Meijer Halls, the University provides a sofa, lounge chair, coffee table, end table and stools in the living area. In the South Hall living areas, a sofa, end table, table and four chairs are provided by the University. Each bedroom has a bed (extra long twin), desk, desk chair, dresser and closet area.
Can I have a loft in my room?
You may have a university-provided loft [PDF] in your bedroom for a rental fee of $25 (added to your student account). These are available on a first come, first serve basis on your move-in day.
Can I have a bike on campus?
Bikes are allowed on campus, but are required to stay outside in the provided bike racks.
Are pets allowed on campus?
The only pets allowed on campus are fish.
Is cable television available?
A satellite TV connection [PDF] is provided in each bedroom and each living room. We offer over 80 different channels [PDF]. Need help with the cable? Contact email@example.com.
What phone services are provided by the University?
One phone line is provided in each suite (not each bedroom) with free local phone service (must dial 8 first to make calls outside the university). You are required to provide your own phone.
What computer network services are available?
Each bedroom is wired [PDF] for the University Network. This will allow you access to the internet. You may also gain access wirelessly throughout all residence halls and campus buildings. Need IT Support? Contact them here.
Who maintains my suite?
Residents are expected to maintain the condition and cleanliness of their suites. Resident Assistants do health and safety inspections every seven weeks. In addition, Facility Services offers general facility maintenance for the Residence Halls. Contact the Front Desk to file a work order.
What types of laundry services are available?
Laundry rooms [PDF] are located on various floors of the residence halls. All washers and dryers require $1 per load of laundry payable via Panther Dollars. Panther Dollars can be added to your Panther OneCard via DU-posit. Some machines do allow quarters as well.
Are there regulations that I should be aware of?
Davenport University is a dry campus, which means no one may possess alcohol no matter your age. We also have a zero tolerance policy in regards to any illegal substance.
Can I smoke in my room or in the common areas?
There is no smoking permitted in any of the buildings on campus. In order to smoke you must stand at least 30’ away from the residence halls.
Can I have a guest in my room?
You may have a guest in your room. Overnight guests must be registered at the residence hall front desk. Guests are permitted overnight for a maximum of three nights. An individual may have two guests spend the night with prior approval from roommates. Overnight guests under 18 are not allowed in the residence halls.
Can I stay in my room during official University breaks?
You may stay in your room during Thanksgiving, winter and spring breaks. An application and an additional charge is required to stay during the winter break.
What are the quiet hour policies?
We have 24-hour courtesy hours. This means you may ask members in our community to keep the noise level down any time of the day. During the last week of classes we follow a 23-hour quiet policy with a "social hour" from 9pm - 10pm each night.
Is there a curfew?
We do not have a curfew, but we do encourage residents to make responsible choices to remain healthy and to be prepared for class.
Is transportation available?
The University provides a free shuttle for students which stops at area stores and the local mall.
