Application Process for Global Internships
Definition: An internship is a structured work-based learning experience, within an approved host organization, for which a student earns academic credit. This experience may be paid or unpaid, based on the program. A global internship is conducted in an approved host organization outside a student’s home country. It may require a visa, work permit, specialized language skills, and cross-cultural preparation.
1. Contact the International Programs Office for a listing of university-approved program providers. From the list, explore the options in which you are most interested, paying particular attention to any possible foreign language skill requirements. Apply for acceptance for International Education Abroad Programs.
2. Meet with your academic advisor. He/she will make sure you meet the GPA and Davenport prerequisite course requirements for the internship and will also give you a signed copy of your DU Degree Plan to take with you to the mandatory Internship Information Seminar.
3. For Colleges of Business and Technology, meet with the Regional Employment and Internship Managers at Warren or Lettinga campuses. The Manager will oversee the process of obtaining specific approval from the International Programs Office, from the Associate Chair for internship descriptions and credits, and assist with related paperwork and interview, cover letter, or resume preparation.
4. Meet with the International Programs Office to facilitate enrollment in the proper course and to receive required international pre-departure orientation.
5. Depart. Complete all academic requirements online and other employer requirements.
